The Host

by T Akery April 3rd, 2013 | Movie Reviews, Romance
The Host is a sad movie whose trailer betrays the total sum of action in the entire movie. Is it an action movie? Nope. Is it a "save the human race" movie? Nope. Is it even a decent alien movie? Nope. The whole movie can be summed up as a romance movie. Yes, you read that right. It is a movie about romantic entanglements between four people. If you are expecting so much more from the trailer, you are bound to be extremely disappointed.

So, an alien species has taken over earth. They are all about peace, politeness, and the

GI Joe Retaliation Delivers Kid-Friendly Action

by Ronald A. Rowe April 2nd, 2013 | Action, Movie Reviews
Fans of GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra may feel a strange disconnect when watching the sequel, GI Joe: Retaliation. Many of the characters, good and bad, from the original were oddly absent from the follow up. Gone without mention are old favorites Heavy Duty, Scarlett, Breaker, Ripcord, the Baroness, and General Hawk.

Duke, the hero of the first GI Joe film, and pretty much every incarnation of the Joes since the early 1980s, got short shrift in the sequel despite the star power of Channing Tatum who reprised the role ... for about 15 minutes. I’m not sure if

Admission

by T Akery March 27th, 2013 | Comedy, Movie Reviews
Admission is another mislabeled, so-called romantic comedy film. There really needs to be a category for these type of movies. But I suppose the unfunny category would turn off movie-goers. It would be much closer to the truth. There have been quite a few of these the past few months. Someone should tell Hollywood that romantic comedy is pretty much dead and Admission is part of its death knell.

Tina Fey stars as an admissions officer at a college. To start with, it isn't the most exciting job. But then to put a boring, straitlaced, uptight character into a boring

by Ronald A. Rowe March 26th, 2013 | Animated, Movie Reviews
The Croods is the newest animated family feature from DreamWorks. The protagonists are a family of cavemen ... um, cave people?... who have outlived all their cave neighbors by meticulously following the patriarch’s safety rules, which could be best summed up in his oft-repeated advice “never be not afraid.” When continental drift causes a series of natural catastrophes the Croods, along with a newcomer named Guy, must leave the safety of their cave sweet cave and find safer ground.

The Croods features an excellent voice cast that includes Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener, Choris Leachman, and Clark

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone

by T Akery March 20th, 2013 | Comedy, Movie Reviews
The Incredible Burt Wonderstone attempts to be a magical film about one magician's attempt to stay on top. Unfortunately, the film fails on so many levels that it is barely watchable at all. Despite its comedic rating, it isn't that funny either.

Burt and his best friend Anton discover magic as kids, as a way to be liked at school. Along the way, they turn it into a career and land a job on the main stage as the headline show for a hotel. But after 10 years of the same magic act, an up and coming magician is taking
