A Christmas Story

by Michele December 2nd, 2011 | Comedy, Movie Reviews
Typically I am not the sort of person who likes to watch a movie multiple times.  However, when the Christmas season returns, there are two movies, each a classic in its own right, that I enjoy watching.  The first is It's a Wonderful Life.  Although I know the story by heart, it brings tears to my eyes and warms my heart.  The second is A Christmas Story, which keeps me laughing throughout the film.

Released in 1983, this almost forty-year-old movie has become a cult classic.  If you haven't heard the line, "You'll shoot your eye out," you really

Golden Gun: What’s Wrong/Right with Moore’s Bond

by Dennis Mayer November 30th, 2011 | Action, Movie Reviews
Like (I suspect) many of you, I spent most of my Thanksgiving break in front of a television, bouncing between a Godfather marathon on one channel and a James Bond movie marathon on another. It was a strange juxtaposition, seeing two of the most lauded entries in America's film canon at the same time as various entries in the Bond franchise (which may be entertaining, but has its serious flaws.)

Give Up Tomorrow

by Jaclyn Abergas November 9th, 2011 | Movie Commentary, Movie Reviews
Give Up Tomorrow is the latest feature documentary from director Michael Collins and producer Marty Syjuco. It's about a screwed-up system that fails one of their own. In September 1997, Paco Larranaga is just attending his classes at culinary school in Manila when a group of unidentified men show up to arrest him. Without any kind of warrant, they inform Paco that he is a suspect in the July 1997 murder of sisters, Jacqueline and Marijoy Chiong, in Cebu, 300 miles away from Manila. Along with six other suspects, he is accused of the crime and convicted in

In Time

by Shannon and Michael November 8th, 2011 | Sci-Fi
In Time is a film that takes place in the future. People are genetically engineered to stop aging at 25 years old. The catch is, they are only given one more year to live. Time has become the new currency. People must work to add more time onto their lives. The film focuses on Will Salas (Justin Timberlake), a young man with little time on his clock trying to scrape by in a rough neighborhood. Will's life takes a major turn when he saves the life of Henry Hamilton (Matt Bomer) who has over a century of accumulated time.

Unfortunately,

Snap Judgement: The Avengers

by Ronald A. Rowe November 4th, 2011 | Action, Sci-Fi
The official, non-bootlegged, studio-authorized advanced trailer for the Avengers came out this week.  In the grand tradition of Snap Judgement, here are my final and immutable observations on the film, which is set for release on May 4th, 2012.

#1 - Robert Downey Jr. is Iron Man.  The after-the-credits cut scene from Iron Man 2 had some fans worried that Downey - and Tony Stark - might be cut from the film or relegated to a background role.  Never fear, the trailer confirms that Downey will be front and center in the Avengers and gives every indication that Tony Stark
