The Adjustment Bureau—In Dire Need of Adjusting

by Samantha Glavin March 8th, 2011 | Action, Movie Reviews
I don’t usually go around giving out awards, but I’ll have to say that The Adjustment Bureau wins the title of Most Disappointing Movie of 2011. I’m not going to waste time mincing words. Usually I try to be more partial with movies, and balance out the bad with the good and at least find one small sunny speck of positivity in a movie disaster, but I’m struggling to find even one tiny ray of light here. The one good thing about this movie is…the clothes. At least every character looked pretty sharp in dapper suits. Maybe the producers

Vision Quest—All The Makings of Something Great

by Samantha Glavin March 3rd, 2011 | Movie Reviews
To me, the making of a good coming-of-age “sports” movie is that it can affect someone even if they’ve never played the sport. Rocky did it, The Karate Kid did it, and now I can say that the 1985 movie Vision Quest did it as well. There is something about these 80s inspirational movies that really get to you. by Samantha Glavin February 22nd, 2011 | Comedy, Movie Reviews
I don’t remember the last time I went to the theater to see a movie with Adam Sandler or Jennifer Aniston in it. I don’t think I ever have. I had pretty much written them and their typical movies off as overdone and unfunny. But this all this changed last weekend when I dodged the big-box cinemas and went to a tiny local, independent theater. We were willing to see any movie, and Just Go with It (2011) was the one that looked the most interesting out of the grand total of three movies that were being shown. And

Salt

by Ronald A. Rowe February 17th, 2011 | Action, Movie Commentary, Movie Reviews
Warning – this review / commentary contains major spoilers.

Salt is an action film starring Angeline Jolie as Evelyn Salt, a CIA agent accused of being an undercover Russian spy. If this were a standard review, I would be generally positive in my comments. I enjoyed the movie overall, but I’m going to focus here on the negatives that separate a good movie from a great one. The DVD comes with three versions of the film – Theatrical Release, Director’s Cut, and Extended Cut. For the record, I watched the Director’s Cut and my comments here pertain to that particular
