Lockout isn’t your typical sci-fi action film with the usual spaceships and explosions. It's far more complex because it’s an amalgam of a lot of genres — primarily action and horror— subsumed under the broader term "sci-fi.” The story takes place in 2079, a year in which space prisons are government-funded programs and, sadly for rogue agent Snow (Guy Pearce), smoking has gone out of style. The Three Stooges is, quite simply, the funniest movie I have seen on the big screen in a long time. Not only was I laughing every couple of minutes throughout the length of the film, but so were most of the people in the surprisingly full theater.

High Road, a new low-budget stoner comedy directed by Matt Walsh (Due Date), is a step above the usual fare associated with the genre. While still not "high art,” it did provide an enjoyable story, fun characters, and the chance to see some relatively new young actors in largely improvisational roles.

Wrath of the Titans 3D

I was expecting a lot from this movie. After all, how can you go wrong with Greek gods, immortality, and huge monsters? But apparently, this movie failed on so many fronts that it should have been relabeled as a Greek tragedy.

Unfortunately, even in 3-D, Leonardo Di Caprio's performance in Titanic was still one-dimensional. The 1997 film was the most expensive movie made up until that time. It also became the most successful. Titanic has just been re-released to theaters in 3D form in time for the 100th anniversary of the actual sinking of the luxury liner, which passed this week.
