Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace in 3D is Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, in 3D. Rumors of new scenes featuring Darth Maul’s back story were unfounded (and kind of cruel). The film is exactly what it always has been. If you hated li’l Anakin and Jar Jar Binks before, well, they aren’t any better in 3D.
Maybe it’s an expectation thing. When it comes to Star Wars, the whole “critic’s objectivity” thing goes right out the door for me. When it comes to George Lucas, anything is possible. I really expected Lucas to develop some new

Big Miracle
by Jane Wangersky February 17th, 2012 | Drama, Family, Movie Reviews
In 1988, "going viral" was not in anyone's vocabulary, but it was happening anyway. Big Miracle tells the (fictionalized) story of a filler item on the news that year that caught the attention of the whole world.
Adam Carlson (John Krasinski), a TV reporter from Anchorage, Alaska, is wrapping up a series of fluff stories in remote Point Barrow when he notices some whales out of place. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is a story about a kid who is looking for his missing grandfather. Thanks to being a "Vernite" (a huge fan of Jules Verne), he gets a message that may lead to his grandfather. He needs the help of his stepfather, whom he sees as a stranger, to help him decode the message -- and the way to the Mysterious Island.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
by Michele February 10th, 2012 | Drama, Movie Reviews
Having seen a handful of previews for this movie, I was prepared to need tissues to wipe away the tears. I was hopeful that Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close would be as moving as the trailers portrayed, and this movie surely did meet that goal. Throughout the film, it was easy to feel the pain, frustration, and love that each character felt.
Based on the novel of the same title, this movie is the story of Oskar Schell, a 9 year old boy who has lost his father in the World Trade Center on 9/11. Before his father's death,

The Grey
by Ronald A. Rowe February 8th, 2012 | Action, Drama, Movie Reviews
The Grey took me by surprise. There is so much more to this movie than meets the eye. I was expecting a fairly straightforward horror/survival movie, which is what The Grey is on the surface. To my surprise and delight, this film goes far deeper than that.
The basic plot of The Grey is nothing novel. A group of roughnecks from an oil rig gets into a plane crash in the remote arctic tundra. There they must battle the elements and predators -- and sometimes each other -- to survive. Change a few details here and there and it could
