Battleship

by R. Carnavale May 30th, 2012 | Action, Movie Reviews
When it comes to movie ideas, some should stay just that: ideas. Battleship is one such movie. The premise itself of being based off of a Hasbro board game is unarguably intriguing and the actual movie isn’t half bad. The issue with Battleship is that the guns, explosions, and aliens aren’t enough to make up for the fact that the movie just isn’t very gripping.

The plot is simple. In 2005, NASA signals discovered a life-sustainable planet, far away from our solar system, similar to earth. In the current day, Lieutenant Alex Hopper (Taylor Kitsch) is part of the RIMPAC

The Dictator – A Fun, Rollicking Political Comedy

by James Maynard May 29th, 2012 | Comedy, Movie Reviews
The Dictator is a delightful new political comedy from Paramount pictures and director Larry Charles (a Seinfeld scriptwriter).

Admiral General Aladeen (Sacha Baron Cohen, Borat), is the dictator of the small fictional country of Wadiya. The character is loosely based on a combination of Saddam Hussein, Mohammar Gaddafi and Kim Jong Il (to whom the movie is dedicated). “The Dictator” is surrounded by an all-female security team (as was Gaddafi in real life), ordering people executed for the smallest of infractions. His oil-rich nation, under great pressure from international oil and banking cartels to open its petroleum markets to international

The 40-Point Plan: A Future That’s Already Started

by James Maynard May 25th, 2012 | Movie Reviews
The 40-Point Plan is coming July 20th to theaters, from the anonymous director who goes by the moniker EW.

The film is a fictional documentary about a near (too near) future where homelessness, hunger and unemployment are completely eliminated worldwide. The cast is led by real-life television journalist David Kemeth (PM Magazine, WFSB, Hartford, CT). Also starring is Tisha Rivera (who has guest starred in a number of small roles on television since 2008) as Dr. Kelly Rivers. She provides some of the better acting in this movie. Nathan Kotzur plays a Richard Branson-like billionaire.

The style of the film is

The Devil Inside

by Josef Hodgkins May 23rd, 2012 | Movie Reviews
This is a very odd film.  It is similar to the film Paranormal Activity, but as far as the film portrays, The Devil Inside is supposed to be based on true events.  I will get into the plot in a minute but I need to prep you.  As I was watching the film, I wasn't sure (it wasn't made clear) if this was an actor's portrayal of actual events, or if it was a fact-based documentary.  There was a great deal of commentary from different people, in the beginning, as it is with a documentary, but it worked itself

Dark Shadows

by T Akery May 22nd, 2012 | Drama, Movie Reviews
Dark Shadows is a Tim Burton film starring Johnny Depp. From those two names alone, you would think that this would be a twisted dark fantasy film about vampires. Unfortunately, this is another Tim Burton disappointment. This is not to say the movie is bad, it is just missing a lot of the darker humor that is a hallmark of his other films. In fact, all of the humor was contained in the movie trailers. I wish that they would have kept some of the funnier surprises for the big screen.

Johnny Depp plays Barnabas Collins who is cursed by
